Description
A green nephrite jade 6.96 carats cabochon. Nephrite is one of two distinct mineral species referred to as "jade" . This stone has a polished, domed gem, which is a common cut for nephrite. It displays a waxy or greasy luster, which is characteristic of nephrite jade, as opposed to the more vitreous (glassy) luster of fine jadeite. The subtle mottling and slight internal variations are typical of nephrite's fibrous, interlocking structure. Black speckles, if present, are often chromite or graphite inclusions, also common in nephrite. Good condition.
