Description
A multicolor vintage sterling silver turtle pendant necklace by famed Navaho craftsman Frank Yellowhorse. The necklace is made up of sterling silver beads, also known as "Navaho pearls", interspersed with several elongated sterling tube beads. It supports a large, sterling silver turtle. The turtle's shell features a geometric mosaic or channel inlay design using various colored stones, including jet, malachite, turquoise, and spiny oyster. The turtle motif in Native American jewelry typically symbolizes longevity, wisdom, and protection. The long shaped and etched beads at the back of the necklace attach a hook-and-eye closure. Marked "Navajo Sterling" and "Frank Yellowhorse" at back. W: 13" Good condition.
