Description
An embossed woodblock print titled "Cell-1" by the renowned Japanese sōsaku-hanga (creative print) movement artist Haku Maki (1924–2000). The print showcases Maki's signature deep embossing technique, which he achieved by using carved plywood blocks with wet cement, adding a third dimension to his works. Maki is known for his modernist, abstract designs that often reinterpret ancient Chinese kanji characters or depict everyday objects like ceramics and persimmons. The "Cell" series features geometric, cell-like patterns. The print includes the artist's red ink seal (chop) and is signed and numbered in pencil in the lower margin. This print is number 77 of 100. Haku Maki's work is widely collected and held in major museum collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the British Museum. H: 23" | W: 22" Good condition.
