Description
An enameled brass collage titled "White Envelope", created by the American artist Fred Uhl Ball (1945–1985). Ball was a highly innovative enamelist known for transforming the medium from traditional small-scale objects to large, architectural installations. The piece is characteristic of Ball's experimental style from the 1970s and early 1980s, which involved using torch-fired enamels on thin copper foil fragments and assembling them into collage-like panels. He was known for exploring fire scale, liquid enamels, and a range of hues on metal surfaces, as seen in the vibrant gold, yellow, and verdigris tones of this work. Fred Uhl Ball was a prominent figure in the Sacramento art scene, the son of two artists, and a respected teacher and author. His most famous work is The Way Home, a 6 x 62 foot enameled mural on a parking garage in downtown Sacramento, considered one of the largest hand-fired enamel pieces in the world. Reverse side has COA from his estate and the title of the work. H: 21" | W: 19" Good condition.
