Description
This decorative collector’s plate by Westland Co. Japan showcases the traditional Art of Chokin technique, in which intricate designs are etched onto copper and gilded with precious metals such as 24-karat gold and silver, a method historically used to embellish Samurai armor. The central image depicts two peacocks perched on a flowering branch surrounded by cherry blossoms and a large pink bloom, rendered in brilliant gold, silver, and softly colored accents. The plate’s border features an ornate raised butterfly motif, and the outer rim is finished in heavy 24k gold trim, enhancing the contrast between the metallic Chokin artwork and the light-colored base. W: 6", good condition.
