Description
This handmade sculptural artwork is crafted in the traditional raku-firing method and shaped in the form of a stylized Japanese kimono. The piece features a vivid patchwork surface composed of multicolored patterned segments in red, purple, black, white, and floral motifs, arranged in layered horizontal and diagonal bands that create a rich textile-inspired effect. The raku technique produces characteristic texture, matte finishes, and subtle crackle patterns, particularly visible in the dark, unglazed elements. The form is broad across the shoulders, tapering into a rounded lower section, with a prominent dark central element resembling a folded obi sash. A maker’s card is included identifying the artist as Marianne Kist-De Boer of Davis, California, known for her raku ceramic kimono series. This piece is in good condition and measures approximately H 17.5" × W 15.75" × L 6.5".
