Description
A pair of traditional Burmese (Myanmar) opium weights cast in the shape of the hintha or hamsa, a sacred goose / Brahminy duck revered in Southeast Asian culture. Each weight is made of brown patinated bronze and stands on a hexagonal base. The birds are depicted with a handle-like ridge on their backs, a distinctive feature of 19th-century examples. These weights were historically used for measuring opium and other valuable commodities. Both pieces are in good condition.
