Description
A vintage handwoven Zapotec wall hanging crafted from wool in Oaxaca, Mexico, showcasing traditional artistry and symbolism. The tapestry is divided into two pictorial sections: The top section, in light gray, features a brown bird in flight. The bottom section, in rich brown, depicts a white bird perched beside a large white flower. Between these scenes are horizontal stripes in gray, white, and black, and the entire piece is framed by black and white striped borders. It is mounted on wooden dowels with a hanging string, making it ready for display. Handwoven on a traditional loom using natural wool and dyes, this piece reflects the heritage of Zapotec weaving, where bird and floral motifs symbolize harmony with nature. H: 40" | W: 13.5", good condition.
