Description
This vintage decorative clay mask from Mexico is inspired by pre-Columbian art and is believed to represent the Maize God (Hun Hunahpu), a key deity in Mayan and other Mesoamerican cultures, symbolizing fertility, sustenance, and rebirth. Crafted from clay, the mask has an earthy texture and is hand-painted in multiple colors. The mask features a serene or neutral facial expression with large, wide-set eyes and a simple mouth opening. The elaborate headdress is adorned with geometric patterns and layered arches, prominently featuring three stylized ears of corn in the center as a direct reference to the Maize God. One earring is broken, but overall it remains in good condition.
