Description
This is a matched pair of Chinese export carved hardstone guardian lions, commonly referred to as Foo Dogs. The figures are mounted on red lacquered wooden display bases and are intricately hand-carved in a traditional style, featuring stylized lion-like bodies with curling manes, expressive open mouths, and strong front paws. The male figure has one paw resting on a ball, symbolizing authority or global dominion; the female has her paw placed on a cub, representing nurturing and protection of lineage. Each sculpture measures approximately 6.5 inches in height and 3 inches in width (excluding the base), and they are in good condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and material.
