Description
This is a mid-century modern ceramic chess piece made by Brayton Laguna California pottery. Designed by Peter Ganine, it is in the form of a gothic-style white queen. It is embossed with “P Ganine” on the back. The piece features a stylized, elongated human-like face with closed eyes and a crown-like top. It has a smooth, matte finish and stands on a sturdy circular base. These pieces were originally created in ceramic and later reproduced in other materials like plastic. The Peter Ganine Gothic chess set is notable for its appearance in the original Star Trek TV series, where it was featured as part of the three-dimensional chess game. It measures approximately H: 12.5" x W: 5". It is in good condition.
