Description
Print of Sandro Botticelli’s Virgin and Child (“Madonna of the Book”), on a wooden surface with a gilded frame. Crafted using traditional Florentine gouache gilding methods, with gold leaf applied in warm tempera, then burnished and glazed. The artwork shows the Madonna and Child seated near a window, with Mary holding a Book of Hours as Jesus gazes at her. Their mirrored hand gestures symbolize blessing and devotion. Botticelli’s original Madonna del Libro (c. 1480–1481) is located in the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Milan. This item measures 16" x 24" and is in good condition.
