Description
This is a limited edition lithograph of Middle Island Point by Nita Engle, published by Mill Pond Press, Inc. in 1984. It is signed and numbered in pencil by the artist, 685/950. The artwork depicts a rocky shoreline with waves crashing against the rocks, producing white foam. Lush green foliage, likely coniferous trees, occupies the right side and foreground, extending toward the mid-ground. In the distance, the sea stretches to a hazy horizon beneath a dramatic sky, with rays of light breaking through the clouds. Nita Engle (1925–2019) was an American watercolorist known for her impressionist landscapes. Working from her studio on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan, she became widely recognized through Mill Pond Press publications. Engle studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Roosevelt University, later receiving an honorary doctorate from Northern Michigan University. She was a member of the American Watercolor Society and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor, and in 2004 received the E. Ray Scott Michigan Artist Prize for her contributions to the arts. The piece measures 24” x 17” and is in good condition.
