Description
This is a limited edition lithograph titled New Beginnings by Bonnie Marris, published by The Greenwich Workshop, Inc. in 1989. It is signed and numbered in pencil by the artist, 875/1000. The artwork depicts a group of bison grazing and resting in a golden grassy field near a stream. A large bison stands prominently on the right, looking toward the viewer. In the background, a forest fire sends a plume of smoke into the sky, creating a dramatic contrast between the calm presence of the bison and the destructive fire. Bonnie Marris explained that the piece was inspired by her time in the Beartooth Pass overlooking Yellowstone Park during the 1988 wildfires. Observing Plains Indians’ teachings and the buffalo’s calm endurance amid the fires, she sought to capture their strength, peace, and acceptance in the face of natural forces. Bonnie Marris (b. 1951) is an American wildlife artist known for her detailed and expressive depictions of animals. She began her career illustrating zoological texts and conservation posters before turning to fine art. Her work is informed by extensive field observation, including time spent living in Alaska to study wildlife in its natural environment. The piece measures 23” x 32” and is in good condition.
