Description
Framed print of Katsushika Hokusai’s (1760–1849) work Birds, Animals, and Plants Representing the Twelve Months (ca. 1820–1835), depicting a crane standing gracefully on a snow-laden branch with bamboo in the background. The piece exemplifies Hokusai’s mastery of ukiyo-e, capturing both delicate natural detail and elegant composition in a vertical format. Known worldwide for The Great Wave off Kanagawa from his Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series, Hokusai transformed the ukiyo-e tradition by expanding its themes from actors and courtesans to landscapes, flora, and fauna, leaving an indelible mark on Japanese art and influencing Western masters such as Monet and Van Gogh. This print is mounted under glass with a tan mat and four decorative corner brackets, set in a gold-tone bamboo-style wooden frame. This item measures 19.25" x 39.25" and is in good condition.
