Description
This is a framed art print of Children Playing on a Winter Day by Su Hanchen (fl. mid-12th century), a renowned painter of the Song Dynasty. The composition depicts two children in a courtyard during winter, with an older girl and a young boy teasing a kitten using a peacock feather and a banner. The print measures 18” x 26” and is presented in a golden frame with a lightly aged finish. It is in good condition with minimal wear. Su Hanchen, a native of Kaifeng, Henan, was active during the Xuanhe era (1119–1125) under Emperor Huizong and continued serving as a Painter-in-Attendance after the court relocated south. He was celebrated for his depictions of children, capturing their natural ease and liveliness—considered one of the most challenging subjects in figure painting. His ability to convey innocence and spirit made him the most renowned painter of this genre. The original artwork is housed at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan.
