Description
This is a Japanese-inspired stoneware plate by Charles McKee, created in 1976. The plate features a bamboo leaves design with a raw, textured finish and is signed on the back. Charles McKee (1931–1999) was head of the Ceramics Program at San Francisco State University from 1961 until 1988. A respected ceramicist, he authored Ceramics Handbook: A Guide to Glaze Calculation, Materials and Processes in 1984. His works earned numerous local and national awards, and he influenced generations of artists, including noted ceramist Ron Nagle, who studied under him. It measures 10” in diameter and is in good condition with minor wear.
