Description
This is a bronze reproduction of The Secret by French sculptor Auguste Moreau. The piece depicts two children sharing a secret in a tender, intimate pose. Auguste Moreau (1834–1917) was part of a prominent French family of artists. Born in Dijon, he studied under his father, Jean-Baptiste Moreau, and later under noted sculptors Aimé Millet and Augustin Drumont. Auguste's son, Louis Auguste Moreau, continued the family tradition, along with other relatives like Mathurin and Hyppolyte-François Moreau. Known for their expressive and romantic bronzes, the Moreau family was instrumental in shaping French sculpture during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their works are found in collections and museums worldwide. It is rendered in the graceful Art Nouveau style and stands 17.75” high on a black marble base. It is in good condition.
