Description
This is a fine art print by Turner Company of The Old Temple, originally painted by Hubert Robert in 1787/88. The image depicts classical architecture animated with scenes of everyday life. Hubert Robert (1733–1808) was a French artist known for his paintings of architectural ruins. The Old Temple was one of four canvases commissioned by Jean-Joseph, Marquis de Laborde, for his château at Méréville, France. These works were designed to dissolve the boundaries of the salon walls with fantastical scenes of antiquity, reflecting the 18th-century fascination with classical ruins. It is presented in an ornate gilded frame measuring 21” L x 23” H. It is in good condition with minor wear to the frame.
