Description
This is a Japanese blue and white Imari ware porcelain bowl from the late 17th century, around 1700. It is likely a product of the Arita kilns, identified by its underglaze blue decoration. It features floral and scenic motifs and measures 3.5” in diameter. The underside bears a Fu Ku (Fuku) mark within a square. Imari ware refers to porcelain produced in Hizen Province, primarily in Arita, Saga Prefecture. Porcelain production in the area began in the 1610s, using ceramic stones discovered in the Izumiyama area. The ware is named after the Imari port, from which the porcelain was shipped. It represents Japan’s first domestically produced porcelain. It is in good condition with minor wear consistent with age.
