Description
This is a handmade ceramic jar by Lindos Keramik from Asgourou, Rhodes, Greece. It features a leaping deer symbol and floral patterns in black and orange. It is signed on the base. The leaping deer is a symbol associated with the island of Rhodes. According to Greek mythology, the island was sacred to the sun god Helios, who gifted it with beauty and prosperity. The fallow deer (Greek: πλατώνι), introduced in myth as a divine gift, became a cultural and ecological symbol of Rhodes. The species, once considered protectors of crops, remains protected and continues to represent the island’s heritage. It measures 3" W x 4" H and is in good condition with minor wear consistent with use.
