Description
This is a framed etching by French artist Lucien Veder (1902–1978), signed and annotated under the pseudonym "Le Garf." It depicts Barbizon – Atelier de J.F. Millet. Lucien Veder learned etching from his father after World War I and adopted the name "Le Garf" to distinguish his work. He was awarded the bronze medal in 1923 and the silver medal in 1925 at the Salon des Artistes Français for his etchings of Paris. His work is held in the collection of the Louvre in Paris. The subject of this etching, Jean-François Millet (1814–1875), was a founder of the Barbizon school and a key figure in the Realism movement. He is known for his depictions of rural life and landscapes, and his studio in Barbizon remains an important historical site in French art history. It is in good condition. The piece measures 18.25” x 16”.
