Description
This is a natural amethyst crystal cluster featuring violet quartz crystals. The crystals are mounted on a contrasting matrix base with visible green corrosion on the underside and orange accents. Hardness is consistent with quartz. Good condition with minor natural imperfections. Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz (SiO₂) known for its hardness and durability. Its coloration is due to irradiation and the presence of iron (Fe³⁺) and trace elements, which create color centers within the crystal lattice. The structure consists of a three-dimensional network of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra, contributing to its resistance to weathering. Historically, amethyst was believed to protect against intoxication, a belief reflected in its name derived from the Greek word amethystos, meaning "not intoxicated."
