Description
This is a US Coast Guard ship clock featuring a Schatz brass ship’s clock and holosteric compensated barometer mounted on a wooden base. Schatz Clocks, originally known as Jahresuhrenfabrik, was founded by August Schatz in 1881 in the Black Forest, Germany. The company transitioned to the Schatz name in the early 1950s and became known for producing marine clocks, barometers, and hygrometers. In 1958, it began manufacturing marine clocks with 8-day crystal striking mechanisms. Schatz also produced 400-day clocks, 1000-day clocks, and cuckoo clocks. The company went through periods of change, including a bankruptcy in 1982, and was later acquired by Delite ApS in 2015. It includes a plaque inscribed “GEORGE & EDRA MCDOWELL.”. It measures 23" x 5.5" x 10.25". It is in good condition.
