Description
This is a colored etching by Austrian artist Herta Czoernig‑Gobanz (1886–1970) titled “Michaelerplatz,” from her Musicians Home Series. It depicts the Vienna home on Michaelerplatz where composer Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) wrote the oratorio “The Creation” (“Schöpfung,” 1797). It includes a musical vignette from that work. It was produced after Czoernig‑Gobanz studied etching under Professor Ludwig Michalek in Vienna and Weimar. It reflects her topographical style, capturing historic Viennese sites and composer homes. It is signed in pencil lower right “H. Czoernig.” It measures approximately 13.25" L × 16.25" H and is in brand new condition.
