Description
This is a vintage framed Navajo sand painting depicting Mother Earth. In Navajo culture, sand paintings, also known as dry paintings, are referred to as "places where the gods come and go." They are traditionally used in curing ceremonies to seek divine assistance for harvests and healing. The figures in these paintings symbolically represent stories from Navajo mythology. Mother Earth is honored as a life giver, teacher, and a guide for living in harmony with nature and all living beings. The piece is set in a handcrafted wooden rectangular frame by Aaron Brothers. This item measures approximately 9.5" L x 15.25" H and is in good condition.
