Description
A Cityscape Watercolor Painting of Chartres, France by René Lorrain. René Lorrain was a prolific yet relatively unknown watercolor and woodblock etching artist from France in the early 1900s. Mostly taught by Gustave Moreau, a well known French artist, René Lorrain specialized in the creation of color aquatints, which he applied mostly for the reproduction of other people’s compositions, as well as for illustrations. This watercolor depicts the city of Chartres in France from the river that runs through the city. Off in the distance the famous Cathédrale de Chartres can be seen rising above the rest of the cityscape. The painting is placed in a frame that measures approximately 22.25" x 29.5". The painting is in good condition.
