Description
Still Life Painting of Red Flowers in a Basket by William Hubacek, 1905. William Hubacek was a California artist living in San Francisco during the turn of the 20th Century. Primarily specializing in still life oil paintings, Hubacek was originally born in Chicago and came by way of covered wagon to San Francisco when he was an infant. His first art studio was in the family home in the Mission District of San Francisco, at 823 York Street. After training at the Mark Hopkins Institute and traveling Europe to continue his studies, Hubacek returned to San Francisco to teach at the Mark Hopkins Institute. A great may of his early works were destroyed in the 1906 Earthquake and Fires that rocked San Francisco, and afterward, he relocated to San Bruno to continue his painting. This particular painting features a depiction of red flowers in a white basket. The painting is signed by Hubacek and dated 1905 at the bottom right. The painting is placed in a frame that measures approximately 47" x 32.5". The paper covering for the back of the frame is ripped, but the painting is in otherwise good condition.
