Description
This is a Sega Console Model 2 Mk-4102and a Sega CD Model 2 System manufactured in 1993. During the 1990's, Sega introduced the Sega CD system to compete with the NEC PC-Engine/TurboGrafx 16 CD-ROM System, and because Nintendo and Sony was partnering to create a CD-ROM based game console. The Sega CD system included an additional processor that was clocked to higher speeds to work alongside the same processor in the Sega Genesis, and initially sold for $299 at its launch in North America in 1992. However, in order to use the Sega CD system, the consumer would already have to own a Sega Genesis Model 1 or 2. By 1993 sales of the system has stalled in Japan and slowed in North America thanks to interest in other CD-ROM based systems like the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. In 1995, Sega shifted its focus to the Sega Saturn CD-ROM Console and in 1996 Sega discontinued the Sega CD. The console itself is black and measures approximately 15.5" x 8.5" x 4". The console does not come with any power cables, controllers, or A/V cables, so it could not be tested to verify functionality. Comes as-is.
