Description
Antique Satsuma Bowl with gilded accents and hand-painted illustrations decorating the inside and outside of the bowl, including grape clusters, mountains, birds, a temple, iris flowers, a bridge over water, and more. Satsuma is a distinctive Japanese pottery from the Meiji period (1868 to 1912) and is defined by the ceramic having a warm cream, ivory-to-beige background with a crackled glaze. Many Satsuma pieces, including this piece, include the Shimazu clan mark which is a circle with a cross inside. The bowl measures approximately 3.75" tall with 10.25" diameter. Good condition.
