Description
Guido Reni's "Aurora" Reproduction Oil on Canvas Painting representing Aurora, Greek goddess of the dawn, bringing forth a new day as she leads the way through the sky for Apollo, the god of light, parting the clouds of night before them. Elegant female figures, known as Hours, dance alongside Apollo's chariot, representing the passage of time. The Italian Baroque master Guido Reni's original ceiling fresco of Aurora was painted in 1612-14 in Rome. Although less recognized today, the painting was widely considered among the crowning masterworks of the history of art throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The back of this reproduction is signed "F. Casabene Roma 1843" and there is a red wax seal. This is a large framed painting which measures approximately 47.5"x 82.25". The back of the canvas shows evidence of repair and there is some surface splatter.
